Volunteer as a Science Leader
We exclusively reach young people from City Heights, a low-income, urban, and racially diverse community. We do this by providing science opportunities, mentorship, and growth mindset tools so that our students can believe, achieve, and lead in science and science-related fields.
We need volunteers, especially those who are racially diverse and willing to share their journey of becoming science leaders! We commit to ensuring the majority of all volunteers reflect the diversity of students in our City Heights community.
About the Opportunity
- This is a 90-minute opportunity, in-person at Ocean Discovery’s Living Lab (4255 Thorn St.).
- Timing is generally 9:30am-11:00am, but your exact timing will be confirmed.
- Your involvement will consist of a series of questions about you and your career, “interview”-style, facilitated by Ocean Discovery staff. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
- The goal of the day’s student program is for our high school students to believe that they are the science leaders our world needs.
- Must be an undergraduate student, graduate student, or professional in science or science-related fields. This includes working for a science company in a non-scientific position.
