Become A College Mentor
We exclusively reach young people from City Heights, a low-income, urban, and racially diverse community. We do this by providing science opportunities, mentorship, and growth mindset tools so that our students can believe, achieve, and lead in science and science-related fields.
We need volunteers to pair 1-on-1 with a 12th grade Ocean Leader and mentor them during their journey to higher education!
About the Opportunity
- This is an annual opportunity, starting in September of each year and ending the following June.
- Regular meetings between Mentors and Mentees occur every Wednesday from 5-6pm at Ocean Discovery Institute.
- No prior expertise in college admissions is required.
- The role of Mentors is to understand their mentee’s education goals and help guide the post-secondary application process; ensure college access milestones are met; review personal statements; assist with financial aid and scholarships; empower long-term decision-making; and celebrate their mentee’s successes.
