Empowering Tomorrow’s Science Leaders:
Ocean Discovery Institute is Hosting their 2nd Annual SPLASH! fundraiser
San Diego, California: Ocean Discovery is hosting their 2nd annual SPLASH! –annual fundraiser supporting tuition-free science for students in City Heights on May 18th. The event is a move from traditional black-tie fundraisers of the past to innovate through a more equitable philanthropic fundraising model. We lowered event costs, decreased the price of admission, all to ensure that more of each contribution will go directly to programs and that our entire community of support – from families, to donors, to partners – can attend.
Last year, one such community partner, City Heights Community Development Corporation, made a $10,000 contribution to support learning experiences for young people traditionally excluded from science due to race, income status, and educational opportunity.
“Ocean Discovery carries out important, innovative and future-focused work in the community. We are so proud to support this organization that empowers City Heights kids with fun learning activities and experiences,” said City Heights Community Development Corporation President & CEO Alexis Villanueva. “We greatly appreciate Ocean Discovery Institute as a community partner as they bring vital STEM education to youth.”
Because of Ocean Discovery’s re-envisioned event model, local leaders in business, academia, science, and can come together in community and contribute at levels that are meaningful to them – whether that’s $10 or $10,000.
