Volunteer as a science leader
We exclusively reach young people from City Heights, a low-income, urban, and racially diverse community. We do this by providing science opportunities, mentorship, and growth mindset tools so that our students can believe, achieve, and lead in science and science-related fields.
We need volunteers, especially those who are racially diverse and willing to share their journey of becoming science leaders! We commit to ensuring the majority of all volunteers reflect the diversity of students in our City Heights community.
About the Opportunity
- Participate alongside our students. Facilitated by Ocean Discover’s instructors.
- Join our high school students for 4 hours at Hoover High School. Spend the day alongside them in the classroom. You will integrate into the program, helping our students analyze data collected from the Torrey Pine tree and consider why protecting endangered Torrey Pines is essential and what they would do to preserve the trees as future science leaders.
- Students will also be able to hear from you and learn about your career pathway. An opportunity for students to learn about the different career possibilities in the STEM field and a chance for students to ask their questions.
- Must be an undergraduate student, graduate student, or professional in science or science-related fields. This includes working for a science company in a non-scientific position.
