5. Prepare for two types of presentations:
A) Science Leader-Student Connection. This is a session with students that you will participate in multiple times during your residency. An ODI staff will ask a series of questions so that students can learn more about you, followed by questions from students. Depending on the day’s logistics, this is sometimes conducted over Zoom (followed by in-person greetings) and sometimes conducted in-person. Nalleli Arriaga, Volunteer Coordinator, will send all preparation materials for this session separately.
B) Presentation to ODI staff. Staff & Fellows will be invited to attend an informal lecture from you (typically 15-25 staff will attend). This presentation should be approx. 30-40 minutes, with time after for Q&A after (1 hour total). Powerpoint is encouraged. Good content would include:
i. Background of your educational & career pathway plus anything that shaped you as a child.
ii. A description of your current research (audience includes people with & without science backgrounds).
iii. Some of your focuses & interests relating to mentorship and promoting diversity in STEM.
