Volunteer at a Community Connections Service Day
We exclusively reach young people from City Heights, a low-income, urban, and racially diverse community. By providing young people with science education, mentorship, and the growth mindset tools, they break the cycle of poverty and enter science and science-related fields.
If you are looking to make a direct impact in benefit of Ocean Discovery, our monthly Community Connections Service Day is the perfect place to do so! You’ll meet other volunteers who also want to make a difference for our students. During our service day, you’ll have the opportunity to tour our state-of-the-art Living Lab science education facility, contribute to projects, and even interact with students!
About the Opportunity
Service projects rotate on a monthly basis and are prompted by our organizational needs in any given month. You could expect to prepare supplies for an upcoming program, clean and put away supplies for a recently-completed program, beautify our indoor and outdoor educational spaces, and more.
What a typical service day looks like:
- Check-in with Ocean Discovery staff and meet other volunteers
- Take a tour of our Living Lab and learn more about our work
- See students in action during a program interaction
- Participate in a variety of service day projects
