Culture Committee Applications are out!
We are launching a culture committee based on the recent recommendation from our consultants at Gig Talent. The committee’s purpose is to evolve the culture at Ocean Discovery, ensuring that everyone feels connected to our vision, mission, and values and each other.
The committee will meet once per month, and members will be tasked with bringing ideas forward to enhance the culture at Ocean Discovery and serve as a conduit to share information to and from the colleagues in their circles. The committee will be comprised of staff from across our organization, and our goal is that this 5- to 7-member committee will equally represent the make-up of our team with 50% fellows/instructors, 25% coordinators/specialists, and 20% managers, plus one Executive Sponsor who will serve as the facilitator. Adrienne Centano, who is the Director of Communications at ESA and a member of Ocean Discovery’s Talent & Culture Task Force, will act as the Executive Sponsor until the Director of People and Culture is hired.
We invite ANYONE and EVERYONE interested in being a committee member to apply using this link which will take you to a short 7-question application. Applications are due on Friday, March 15. We have also created the FAQ below to learn more about this opportunity. If you have additional questions that aren’t answered in the FAQ, feel free to reach out to Adrienne Centano (acentano@esassoc.com) with your questions.
Culture Committee – FAQs
How will the staff members be selected? For example, will they volunteer, be nominated, or be picked by directors?
Staff members will fill out a short application. Applications will be reviewed by the Talent & Culture Task Force who will recommend members for a term.
Are there particular qualities that staff members will need to have to qualify?
The Talent & Culture Task Force will use a scoring rubric to review applications and is committed to ensuring the committee composition reflects Ocean Discovery’s make-up.
Will the members rotate out?
Yes, members will serve a 1-year term to allow others to participate on the committee.
How do we know the members are doing a good job, and what happens if they are not?
We’ll know if members are doing a good job if they are active participants in committee meetings and follow up on their action items. If a member is struggling with their committee duties, the Executive Sponsor will determine if the individual should step back from their duties to allow someone else to take their place.
How much of a time commitment will this be?
Committee meetings will be one hour per month, plus members should budget 2 hours per month to prepare for meetings and communicate information to their teams as appropriate.
Will I get paid to be part of the committee?
Yes, participation will be part of the workday.
What happens if someone leaves during their term?
If a large portion of the term remains, the Executive Sponsor will ask for applicants to complete the term.
